At Alexandra Park Sixth Form we strongly believe that every student matters and we provide outstanding support, both in and outside the classroom

Director of Studies

Each cohort is led by a Director of Studies who is responsible for the academic progress and pastoral care.

Each student has their own Tutor. Through individual target setting and action planning, the Tutor will help student to reach your full academic and personal potential by

  • advising students on study skills and how to get the highest grades through regular reviews of academic progress;
  • providing personal advice and support;
  • arranging and monitoring any extra learning support students may need;
  • supporting with career progression and applications for university or employment.

Health & Welfare

We are fully committed to promoting the health and welfare of all our students and take our legal duty of care very seriously. We will take any and all reasonable actions to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our students. We have a zero-tolerance policy towards any behaviour that causes anxiety or distress to others. All staff receive regular safeguarding training and you can be assured they will respond quickly and professionally to any concerns you raise with them.

Learning Support

We have a dedicated and specialist Learning Support team to help all Sixth Form students achieve their personal and academic goals. The team has a wealth of experience in supporting students with the full range of special educational needs, disabilities and other health needs. They will continue to provide the support students may have received at school, as well as support students who experience difficulties while in the Sixth Form.

Counselling Service

Every Sixth Form student has access to a confidential counselling service with our two full-time in-house professional counsellors. This helps ensure that you enjoy your time in the Sixth Form and achieve personal and academic success.

Careers Guidance

We have specialist advisers in the Sixth Form who are always available to provide students with informed and impartial advice.

Working with Parents

We absolutely believe that students will achieve more when we all work together: student, parent/carer and teachers. In the Sixth Form, students need some independence and responsibility for their own learning in order to prepare them for their next steps onto university or employment. We provide this freedom in a very supportive context with close monitoring and guidance.

We endeavour to keep parents/carers informed and up to date about their son/daughter’s progress. We do this through a variety of methods including Student Progress Evenings to discuss academic progress with subject teachers and Progress Tutors and regular progress and attendance reports
