Sixth Form Progression

Background

We arrange information, advice and guidance appointments for internal and external students applying to year 12 at Alexandra Park School. The main purpose of these meetings is to make sure that each student is applying for courses on which they are able to succeed and which are appropriate to their educational and career goals.

A few students realise quite quickly that they are on courses that are inappropriate for them at the start of year 12 and we make every effort to change their courses within the first three weeks of term.

Progression from year 12 to 13

In the summer term of year 12 students take exams in all subjects. In order to progress on a particular course of study to year 13 students will need at least a grade D or equivalent or a Pass in vocational subjects. Good attendance is strongly correlated to success.  If lesson attendance falls below 85% then students are at risk of not progressing onto their chosen courses in Yr13. If a student has not fulfilled the requirements of a particular course that at the end of Year 12, alternative pathways and courses will be discussed and offered.
