Important: Exam Results 2020

Examination results have been sent to students email addresses.  Students will all have received two separate documents – the first contains their examination results, the second shows details of the Centre Assessed Grades and Ranking within that grade, that the school submitted to the examination boards and that were then used to determine the final grade in each subject. In light of the developing situation regarding appeals, the second document also includes students’ mock grades from January.

We understand that the process by which final grades were determined is causing confusion.  To help you understand Ofqual have provided this Infographic.

Error with results

Please note the school cannot change your grades.  If you believe there may be an error with your result(s) please complete this form: Clerical Recheck Form and return it to the Exams Office (joshea@alexandrapark.school) by  Tuesday 1st September. 

Entering Examinations in the Autumn

If you wish to sit an exam in any of the above subjects in the Autumn, you must complete this entry form Autumn Exam Entry Form and return it to the Exams Office (joshea@alexandrapark.school) by Thursday 27th August.   There are no late entries.  If you miss this deadline you will not be able to sit the exam (s) in the Autumn series.

Limited right of appeal

It is important for students and parents to understand the limited grounds on which an appeal can be made to the exam board. Students have no right of appeal against the professional judgement of staff (e.g. as to the calculation of the appropriate grade or rank order), nor does the school itself have right of appeal on the basis that it has changed its professional judgement. Other than the grounds of ‘valid mock data’ (see above), the school may only appeal to the exam board where there is evidence that an administrative error was made either by the school when submitting a student’s CAG or rank position, or by the exam board when calculating a student’s grade.

Any appeals on the above administrative grounds may only be made by the school on behalf of a student. Students may make a request that the school make an appeal to the exam board on your behalf on these grounds, however the school has the right to decide whether or not to make this appeal on your behalf. If you have any questions about your right of appeal or about your exam results, please direct your enquiries to the Exams Office  (joshea@alexandrapark.school) in the first instance so that we can process your enquiry in a timely manner.  All such queries should be received by Tuesday 1st September.

If, having liaised with the Exams Office in relation to your queries, you consider you may have grounds for an appeal to the exam board, or if you wish to appeal against a decision of the school not to appeal on your behalf, or have concerns of any other nature regarding your exam results, please write to Dan Silverman, Deputy Headteacher, setting out the basis on which you believe an appeal should be made, or the nature of your concern.

Results Days 2020

A level and Level 3 BTEC results will be published on the 13th August 2020. All results will be sent by email to students’ email accounts. For security and technical reasons we will only be sending results to one account per student: the personal email account of the individual student as listed on our system. 

No paper copies will be available until the publication of certificates in November. 

For security reasons results cannot be given out by telephone under any circumstances.  Results will be emailed on Thursday 13th August from 9am.

Bridging Guides

Year 11 Bridging Guide

The purpose of this Bridging Guide is to support students in Year 11 with their preparation for A Level studies.

This booklet contains suggested preparatory activities for all the subjects offered in APS Sixth Form. The precise nature of these activities differs between subjects, but in every case there are a range of different tasks that students can explore in order to acquaint themselves with the content and the skills that will be required in different A Level studies.

The guides are not intended to be exhaustive, there will be thoroughly worthwhile means of preparing for each course that are not included here. The intention is to offer an accessible, varied and effective grounding for students before they commence a course in Year 12.

Students are advised to focus on the subjects for which they have received a conditional offer, but of course they are also free to explore activities in other subjects that interest them. One of the benefits of this guide is that it does offer an insight into subjects that that are offered to students in Year 12 but have not been available lower down the school.

The varied nature of the guides ensures students will all have access to varied and engaging activities.
It is important to stress that completion of the tasks in these guides, whilst highly recommended, does not have an impact on our admissions criteria, under which acceptance onto an A Level course is dependent upon meeting the published GCSE-grade based entrance requirements.

Remote Learning

During the COVID-19 pandemic we are providing remote learning for students who are ill, self-isolating or are part of a group that has been asked to quarantine. Most learning will be available through Microsoft’s O365 suite, particularly Teams. 

Students have been introduced to the platform in school and have had opportunities to use it from home to respond to activities set by staff. 

Engagement by students with the learning activities set is monitored by staff. 

When students are ill or self-isolating, but their lessons are continuing as normal in school,  resources for those lessons are posted to their class team on Microsoft Teams. 

When staff are in school but students’ whole classes or whole year groups have been sent home, instructions will be posted on Teams before or during the timetabled lesson. These may take the form of written instructions, pre-recorded audio or video or live video lessons. Teachers will be available throughout the timetabled lesson to respond to questions from students through Teams.

Using Teams and O365

Teams works best through the App.  You can download it from the Windows App Store or the Apple App Store.  If you're using it through a browser, an up-to-date version of Chrome works well.  The school cannot provide remote technical support to students learning from home, but the video below should help you log in to Teams and O365.
