Summer Talk - The Inner Workings of the Internet

On Monday 3rd of July around 200 parents, students and staff were treated to a fascinating talk by Dan Appelquist exploring the inner workings of the Internet. His talk, The web: what happens behind the click, covered areas of technology, science and engineering and got people thinking about something they use everyday but don't consider the inner workings. The range and number of student and parent questions was testament to this.

Our thanks to Dan and to you for being a great audience. Watch this space to hear about our next community talk - the 2017 APS Christmas lecture.

BBC News Presenter visits APS

BBC Today programme presenter, Mishal Husain spoke to all of Year 9 about her life and career.

The Hall was rearranged to resemble a Question Time layout and representatives from each form questioned Mishal on a range of topics. Year 9 behaved in an exemplary fashion throughout and Ms Husain conveyed many powerful messages on the importance of aiming high and being resilient when things don’t work out.

Thank you to Mishal for captivating our students and well done to Year 9 for their behaviour and thoughtful questions.

Year 8 Artist in Residence

This month a small group of our year 8 students were selected to take part in a special Artist in Residence workshop led by Ceramic artist, Ricky Grimes.

During the workshop, students learned how to sculpt with clay and explore a variety of different techniques to build different types of sculpture based on their current project ‘My London’.

The students mind-mapped a broad range of ideas from environmental to social issues within London and created some fantastic final outcomes.

I would like to say a big thank you to Ricky Grimes for his time and expertise with our students and to the year 8 students for their time and hard work.
