APS students shortlisted in Take pArt Art Challenge

KS3 Art club students attended weekly sessions to create unique compositions for the 'Take pArt Art Challenge' competition supported by the Jack Petchey Foundation and delivered by national charity Children & the Arts. The theme for the competition consisted of exploring the topic 'Evolve'.

A number of our talented KS3 Art students entered the ‘Schools by Year 7-9 pupils’ category and as a result, out of 750 entries, three of our students’ compositions were shortlisted. Emily, Mila and Millie and their guests attended a private viewing to celebrate their achievements at the V&A Museum of Childhood. Alongside such an outstanding achievement, Mila’s composition was awarded as runner up for the ‘National Schools by Year 7-9 pupils’ category.

The Art department are all very proud of the students who attended KS3 Art club on a weekly basis to enter the ‘Take pArt Art Challenge’ competition.

Year 8 Artist in Residence

This month a small group of our year 8 students were selected to take part in a special Artist in Residence workshop led by Ceramic artist, Ricky Grimes.

During the workshop, students learned how to sculpt with clay and explore a variety of different techniques to build different types of sculpture based on their current project ‘My London’.

The students mind-mapped a broad range of ideas from environmental to social issues within London and created some fantastic final outcomes.

I would like to say a big thank you to Ricky Grimes for his time and expertise with our students and to the year 8 students for their time and hard work.
