Christmas Letter 2016

Dear Students, Parents and Carers

The final two weeks of term before the Christmas holiday are always busy and involve some alterations to the usual schedule, so please make a note of the following changes and dates for your diary.

Our Year 11 students begin their GCSE mock examinations from Monday 5th December.  Students have been given all relevant details and the mock timetable is available on the school website.  We wish them all the best of luck.

On Thursday 8th December, Year 9 will be having their Progress Day.  Students in other year groups will be dismissed at 12.20 p.m.

On Monday 5th December, the Physics department are hosting The Ogden Christmas Lecture.  This year the lecture will be given by Dr Emily Grossman, science broadcaster, educator and public speaker who will be discussing the weird and wonderful world of science.  We will be serving mince pies and mulled wine at 5 p.m. followed by the lecture commencing at 5.30 p.m.  This is a popular, ticket only event.

Pre ordered Christmas trees purchased through the APS Parents’ Association can also be collected from the school playground on 5th December between 4.30 – 5.30 p.m. and 6.30 – 7.45 p.m.

Christmas lunch will be served on Wednesday 14th December.  The cost of the lunch will be £2.95 which will include a full turkey dinner with all the trimmings and a desert.  A vegetarian option will also be available.  Free school meal tickets can also be used. Snacks and sandwiches will only be on sale at break time.

On Thursday 15th December we will hold Celebration Assemblies for each year group when awards are presented to students for excellent attendance, engagement and achievement.

On Friday 16th December there will be an optional non-uniform Christmas Jumper Day (£1 has to be paid in advance; £2 if you delay and pay on the day).  The money raised from this will be donated to Save the Children and MacMillan Cancer Support. There will be an early dismissal for students at 12.30 p.m.  Students on free school meals can collect a lunch at break time.

Please remember that the Headteacher’s Newsletter, along with an increasing amount of other school correspondence, is now delivered by email – do inform the school if your email address changes.

The first day of term for all students is Tuesday 3rd January 2017 at 8.40am.  We look forward to seeing all students promptly, in full school uniform and ready to work.

This has been a busy and productive term at Alexandra Park School and I thank you all for your continuing support. The staff and I wish you and your families Season’s Greetings and a very Happy New Year.

Yours sincerely

Michael McKenzie
